Using strictly the internet and social media to generate interest, the Greater Phoenix Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce for the second year, delivered the largest single donation of toys to Phoenix Children’s Hospital in their history.

The GPGLCC delivered more than 2,500 toys worth an estimated $30,000 to Phoenix Children’s Hospital’s Child Life Program.

The drive which began in November quickly gained momentum and several area organizations and retail stores contributed to the success.

“The response was overwhelming said Joseph Gesullo, GPGLCC Board President.”

He added that the event illustrates the involvement of the Chamber in the whole community and it demonstrates its member’s commitment and positive impact on Arizona’s economy.

Paul Holtzman, the Toy Drive Chair was especially moved by the volume of donations. “This is a testament to how many big hearts make up our community.” Holtzman oversaw the delivery of toys on the 23rd when they were brought to the hospital in a large truck.

Kathy House, Child Life Assistant for the Oncology/Renal Playroom agrees.

“This is the most sizeable donation from a single source we have ever received,” she said. She added, toys collected during the year are distributed to patients on a daily basis. Most toys are collected leading up to and during the Holiday season. The toys are distributed by PCH’s Child Life staff during the Holidays through a program called Toyland where parents of patients can “shop” for presents for their children. Toys collected during the holiday season also help sustain the need for toys throughout the year.

Major donors for the Toy Drive included:

GPGLCC members
Fort McDowell Casino
Schuster Print Marketing Services
Elyse Tenney, Turbo Resources
