Local First Director Kimber Lanning with U.S. Rep. Harry Mitchell

We are privileged to provide PR services to Local First Arizona. Kimber Lanning is honestly one of our inspirations. In a few short years, she has built LFA into the largest, most successful organization of its kind, anywhere in the United States. The premise is clear, support and promote locally owned independently owned businesses. When you spend money at one of these businesses, 47 cents of your dollar stays in the local economy versus 13 cents spent at a national chain. Now, are all chains bad? No, of course not, they can add value to the community given the strengths and quality of their brands. However, when a community imports nearly all of its goods and services, then you have a huge problem. It’s economics 101.

Local businesses sustain the economy because they circulate dollars into the community; they hire local attorneys, accountants, florists and buy their supplies locally, for example. All of the employees live in the community they serve.  In addition, transporting goods is local, so they have small environmental footprints.

Nearly all of my clients are members of Local First. I urge you to support this cause and in doing so, strengthen Arizona’s economy and create good and valuable jobs.

The event you see here was an announcement of our work in downtown Scottsdale in partnership with the Scottsdale Gallery Association. The press conference was held at the Calvin Charles Gallery for which TFPR worked for Local First to garner media attention. We were so grateful to have the support of KPHO, Fox 10, ABC-15 (special thanks to Jennifer Jones and Jefferson Cochran), KTAR, the Arizona Republic, the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley Independent, Phoenix Magazine, Phoenix Business Journal and the Scottsdale Downtowner.

Currently Local First’s “Small Wonders” maps can be found in downtown Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe with an East Valley Map in the works. Stay tuned for another major announcement from Local First early this Spring.
